There are vacations you take simply to get away.
And then there are the trips that happen because something important is happening in your family.
A 50th birthday. A 25th wedding anniversary. Grandparents bringing their children and grandchildren together. Brothers and sisters who now live in different places finally finding a week when everyone can be together.
Increasingly, families choose a private villa in the Dominican Republic for exactly this reason. A villa gives a multi-generational group privacy, shared spaces and, most importantly, time together.
When one of those families decides to spend a day on the Caribbean Sea, we believe the experience should reflect the reason they came.
A Private Charter Is More Than a Boat Without Other Tourists
There is an enormous difference between purchasing places on a boat excursion and chartering a boat privately for your family.
Mass-market excursions are designed around volume. They transport large numbers of guests, follow predetermined schedules and create an experience that works for everyone onboard.
There is nothing wrong with that model. It simply isn’t what we do.
At El Tour Caribe, our private charters are designed around the people who chartered the boat.
There are no strangers joining your group. No need to keep pace with dozens of other passengers. No feeling that your family is simply moving through somebody else’s itinerary.
The boat is yours for the day.
Three Generations Rarely Want the Same Thing
This matters with multi-generational families.
The teenagers may want to snorkel. Someone else wants music and a drink.
Grandparents may prefer a comfortable place in the shade. Young children might be happiest playing in shallow Caribbean water.
A good private charter doesn’t require everyone to enjoy the day in the same way.
It allows everyone to enjoy the same day together, differently.
The Real Luxury Is Having Time
Luxury is often associated with bigger boats, expensive bottles and elaborate menus.
But one of the greatest luxuries on vacation is much simpler:
Not being rushed.
If the family is having a wonderful time somewhere, there shouldn’t be a guide trying to move 40 people back onto a boat.
If the children are fascinated by the fish while snorkeling, they should have time to enjoy it.
And if three generations of a family are standing together in beautiful Caribbean water celebrating a birthday, nobody should be looking at a watch.
Sometimes the best part of a private charter isn’t something we planned at all. It is having enough freedom in the day to allow those moments to happen.
Saona Is Beautiful. But That Isn't the Whole Story
Saona Island, the reefs of Cotubanama National Park and the shallow Caribbean waters surrounding the Natural Pool are extraordinary places.
But thousands of people can visit the same island and have completely different experiences.
For us, the objective isn’t simply to say, “We took you to Saona.”
It is to think about how you experienced it.
Where possible, we plan our days away from the rhythm of the large excursion boats. We prefer beautiful snorkeling, quieter locations and enough time for guests to actually enjoy where they are.
Good food. Drinks. Music. A DJ when appropriate. A captain, crew, chef and guide taking care of the details while the family concentrates on something much more important:
each other.
Celebrating a Moment That Won't Come Again
There is something special about multi-generational travel.
Children grow up. Grandparents get older. Families spread across different countries. Schedules become more complicated.
Getting everyone into the same villa, in the same country, during the same week can itself be an
accomplishment.
That is why we don’t see a 60th birthday charter, a family reunion or a wedding-anniversary trip as simply another excursion.
The destination may be Saona Island. But the real reason everyone is onboard is often something else entirely.
They are celebrating a moment in time.
And those moments deserve more than a crowded boat, a fixed timetable and the lowest possible price.
We Don't Sell Seats. We Create Private Days at Sea.
There will always be cheaper ways to visit Saona Island.
If the objective is simply to reach the island for the lowest possible price, a private charter probably isn’t necessary.
But when the trip itself matters when your family has travelled to the Dominican Republic because there is something worth celebrating the experience becomes part of the occasion.
At El Tour Caribe, we have chosen to focus on private experiences rather than mass tourism.
Fewer people. More flexibility. Personal service. And one boat dedicated to the people you actually came to the Dominican Republic to spend time with.
Because ten years from now, they may not remember what time the boat left the marina.
But they may remember Grandpa snorkeling with his grandchildren.
They may remember dancing on the boat.
They may remember the birthday toast in the Caribbean.
Most of all, they will remember having everyone together.
